An EU-funded rare earth certification scheme using blockchain is being developed as automakers demand proof that the materials used to make electric vehicle (EV) magnets are not linked to toxic pollution. Officially announced on Tuesday by the two organizers, the system will set global standards and provide confidence to consumers who demand sustainable products. The Rare Earth Sustainability Assessment Circular System, or CSyARES, will be ready in about three years, according to the Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) and Dutch supply chain traceability company Circularise.
