Canada’s federal and national police have issued orders to all financial regulators in the country to stop transactions with bitcoin addresses associated with the Freedom Fleet fundraising efforts. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Ontario Provincial Police are investigating bitcoin donations received by truck drivers protesting against ending COVID-related missions in Ottawa, the political heart of Canada. The campaign, deemed illegal by the government, recently prompted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to invoke the rare Emergency Measures Act. According to the order, under Section 19(1) of the Emergency Measures Act, there is a duty under the Emergency Measures Order to stop facilitating any transactions related to the following cryptocurrency addresses. The filing then lists 29 bitcoin addresses that have traded up to $1 million worth of BTC.
