Aircraft with restricted mining equipment from China continued to land in the region, and there was a notable increase in hardware thefts. The company that secures electricity in Russia’s Irkutsk region reported a fourfold increase in the population’s consumption in 2021 from the previous year, blaming amateur crypto miners for the surge. The report states that many residents of the Irkutsk region have established mining farms in their homes and villas. The grid load is constantly increasing, resulting in frequent failures and blackouts.
