On January 26, Nasdaq-listed miner Greenidge Generation (stock code: GREE) announced on Tuesday that it will spend $264 million to develop a new cryptocurrency data center in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. The 175-acre data center will house the most advanced and efficient commercial cryptocurrency mining computers and create 40 new local tech industry jobs. Greenidge expects the facility will have at least 100 megawatts of data center capacity when fully developed, and the first phase of the project is expected to come online in the second half of 2022, with additional expansion by 2025. Mining firm Greenidge expanded its operations to Texas and South Carolina, and purchased more than 10,000 additional mining machines from Bitmain, it was reported in October last year.
