Sony Bank subsidiary applies for banking license, seeks to launch stablecoin and custody services in the United States

According to Odaily Planet Daily, Sony Bank subsidiary Connectia Trust has applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a U.S. national banking charter to issue a dollar-pegged stablecoin, maintain reserve assets, and provide digital asset custody and management services. This follows a growing number of crypto companies that have submitted crypto banking charter applications to the OCC, including payment processor Stripe, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, stablecoin issuer Paxos Trust, and USDC issuer Circle.
