The veteran project CryptoPunks is the NFT series released by Larva Labs in 2017. It consists of 10,000 unique 8-bit pixel images, including humans, zombies, apes and aliens. Among them, aliens are the most rare. Among more than 10,000, only 9 have the blue skin characteristics of aliens. The second rarest is ape-man, with only 24.

According to data from Larva Labs, CryptoPunks #4156 was sold at a price of 2,500 ETH yesterday (9), and converted into US dollars before the deadline, it was about 10.4 million US dollars.

In terms of US dollar sales prices, it set the second highest US dollar sales record after the mask alien CryptoPunk #7523 sold at Sotheby’s auction for US$11.8 million in June.

However, according to the data on the chain, the buyer who bought #4156 with 2,500 ETH then intends to sell the NFT at a price of 4,156 ETH, which is about 17.28 million U.S. dollars; and the buyer’s latest bid amount only came to 1,200 ETH, the converted price is 4.98 million US dollars.

Ethereum sales ranking

#4156 will have such a high dollar sales due to the recent rise in the price of ETH against the US dollar, with 10.4 million US dollars being only 2,500 ETH; according to the ranking of Larva Labs data, 2,500 ETH sales only ranks third.

The Ethereum sales of #4156 are second only to #3100 and #7804, both of which are alien avatars. Both of them were sold on March 11 this year. The price is also 4,200 ETH. According to the sales at the time, it was converted to USD 758. Ten thousand U.S. dollars, if applied to the current U.S. dollar price, it would be 17.48 million U.S. dollars.

Interestingly, according to previous reports, in October this year, there was also a buyer who offered 2,500 ETH to buy CryptoPunks #6046, which was converted to USD 9.5 million at the time. But then the seller rejected it and said, "My CryptoPunk will not be sold, and I don't care what other people exchange for me."

Auction house

CryptoPunk has recently succeeded in breaking out of the currency circle with a resounding reputation. The high price of the project has attracted the attention of international auction houses such as Sotheby's and Christie's many times. There have also been many cooperation experiences between the project and the auction house.

However, shortly after the sale of CryptoPunk#4156, the original seller said on Twitter that the auction house had privately informed him and said that if they were to host the auction, they might be able to sell an extra 1,500 ETH.

"Several auction houses have privately informed me that they have the ability to sell with 4,000 ETH. If this is true, then there is still an arbitrage range of 1,500 ETH. I am skeptical."
